Jerome “Jerry” Kelbley, was an educator and softball coach in Westerville for 36 years.
He was a strong advocate for young women, and girls’ athletics. He retired from teaching industrial arts and photography at Westerville South in 1997, and coached softball until 2017.
His softball teams at Westerville South won 12 OCC titles, 11 district championships, 5
regional titles, and a Division I state runner-up finish in 1994. He finished his softball
career with 639 wins.
Honors
He was inducted into the Central District Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in
1994, the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995, and the
Ohio Capital Conference Hall of Fame in 2014.
About Jerry
He had an engineer’s mind and worked to refine and improve everything around him.
Jerry has one child, Elizabeth who worked on ball fields with him when she was a
teenager. And three grandchildren, Olivia, Asa, and Zara. All of them would spend
some time during the summers working with Papa on fields.
